Karachi Police Unveil Traffic Plan for 12 Rabi-ul-Awal
The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a detailed traffic management plan for the 12 Rabi-ul-Awal processions scheduled across the city on Saturday.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is observed every year with great devotion, and Karachi hosts numerous religious gatherings and processions on this occasion. A traffic police spokesperson said that all SSPs will personally oversee processions in their respective districts to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and security.
Two major processions will depart from Memon Masjid in the afternoon. The first will start at 2:30 pm and conclude at Aram Bagh Masjid, while the central procession, led by Maulana Shah Abdul Haq Qadri, will begin at 3:00 pm from Memon Masjid and end at Nishtar Park.
The plan specifies that MA Jinnah Road will remain closed for regular traffic, except for vehicles officially participating in the processions and carrying stickers issued by the authorities.
Diversions in District Central
- Traffic from Nazimabad can move via Lasbela Chowk through Nishtar Road towards Garden.
- Vehicles from Liaquatabad may use Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk, turning left towards Central Jail.
- From Hassan Square to PPP Chowrangi, motorists can use Kashmir Road → Society Light Signal → Jail Flyover → Teen Hatti → Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).
- No traffic will be allowed from Guru Mandir to Numaish.
Diversions in District East
- Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Numaish can use Shahrah-e-Quaideen (Noorani Kebab) → Society Light Signal → Kashmir Road.
- Vehicles from Jamshed Road heading toward Guru Mandir may divert to Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
Diversions in District South
- From Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road, traffic may divert via Uncle Sarya → Gul Plaza, or through the Coast Guard (Holy Family Hospital).
- From Lucky Star to MA Jinnah Road (Empress Market), vehicles will be rerouted from Saddar Dawakhana to PPP Chowrangi.
- Vehicles toward Burns Road will divert via Abdullah Haroon Road → MR Kiyani Chowk.
- No traffic will be allowed from MR Kiyani Chowk to Court Road (Kabootar Chowrangi). Instead, vehicles will be rerouted via Arts Council (Strachan Road) → Pakistan Chowk.
- From Shahrah-e-Liaquat to Burns Road, diversions will be in place from Aram Bagh Signal → Pakistan Chowk.
Additionally, all heavy and commercial vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city on 12 Rabi-ul-Awal.
Traffic police have urged citizens to use alternative routes and plan to avoid delays or inconvenience during the religious processions.
Citizens have also been advised to cooperate with traffic police officials on duty, as they will be stationed at key diversion points to assist and guide motorists. Authorities emphasized that public patience and discipline are vital to ensuring a safe and smooth religious event for everyone.
The police department has also released a helpline for those seeking information or requiring guidance on traffic diversions. Motorists can call the designated number to get real-time updates about alternative routes, diversions, and roadblocks. This step has been introduced to minimize confusion and reduce traffic congestion across the city.
In addition, traffic police officials announced that parking arrangements have been made at designated locations close to procession routes. These arrangements are aimed at ensuring vehicles are not parked illegally or in ways that obstruct traffic movement. Citizens have been strictly warned against parking on MA Jinnah Road or adjacent streets to prevent bottlenecks and maintain security.
The administration has also highlighted the importance of security coordination during the processions. In collaboration with law enforcement agencies, CCTV cameras and surveillance teams will be monitoring major routes. The use of modern technology is expected to help authorities respond promptly to emergencies and ensure the safety of participants and residents.
Public transport operators have been informed in advance about the diversions and closures. Rickshaw, bus, and ride-hailing service drivers are urged to remain mindful of changes to avoid unnecessary detours. This communication ensures that daily commuters, especially office-goers, face minimal disruption despite the large gatherings.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is one of the most celebrated occasions in the city, and the police stressed that these measures are not only for traffic management but also for the protection of participants. Citizens have been encouraged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel on procession routes, and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Overall, the Karachi Traffic Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining order and providing maximum convenience to the public. The success of the plan, however, depends equally on the cooperation of the city’s residents. With careful planning, guidance from the authorities, and civic responsibility from citizens, the processions of 12 Rabi-ul-Awal can be carried out peacefully and smoothly.
