Your little treasures
Little things I love about you
I lie awake the dark consumes me
You are asleep unknowing
Every breath from you calms my soul
It’s pitch black but my heart is glowing
I trace the freckles on your back
A tiny map I love to see
I feel your cool skin against mine
Your sleeping face it calls to me
I watch you always so intently
How you smile when you’re dreaming
Your thin lips soft and subtle
I yearn to kiss them while you’re sleeping
The curve of your body against the moonlight
The little hair falls on your face
These simple things I love to notice
You are my happy place

The Gut Feeling - Part 1
It was a cold December day. My children and I decorated the tree and played board games while their father was away on business. He was coming home late that night. He never wanted to decorate for Christmas with us. Late that night he came home and went right to bed. No talking about the trip or how the kids were while he was gone. Nothing. So I stayed up watching a movie and texting a friend while browsing the internet as was my usual late night plan.

Great-Grandfather Eldridge’s Poetry
Recently, I learned that my great-grandfather, on my fathers side of the family, wrote quite a bit of poetry. A family member put together a book of his poetry. I had no idea until recently. It was such a wonderful pleasure connecting to his words, written so long ago! I had never met him because he died long before I was born. From what I’ve been told, his wife died during childbirth. It makes me wonder how similar I may be to some of my ancestors, in the fashion in which I reflect and write.
