Your Demons Will Welcome A New Friend
Understanding who they really are

How do you really know
When you’ve met your match,
That one person connected
Your one perfect catch.
***
Often you feel so much love
Then realise it’s a mistake,
Their love, was it real at all
No damn it, it was all fake.
***
You hide away for awhile
Your demons scolding you,
Lecturing, you know better
As you hurt the way you do.
***
Your heart builds scar tissue
As you vow never to try again,
You build up your walls higher
Nobody is ever worth this pain.
***
But unbeknown to you
Your soulmate is near,
They will free your heart
You have nothing to fear.
***
Your soulmate won’t tiptoe
Won’t be your demons prey,
No they’ll ever so confidently
Ask your demons out to play.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
