You’ve Got This

I promise

Dear 38 year old Colleen,

I’m writing you this letter to ease your worried mind,

To let you know you’ve got this; I promise!

******

Trust in your strength, your wisdom, your resilience,

Because you’ll need everything you’ve got,

But you will survive.

******

I feel your pain darling girl,

I feel the love that you hold within your heart,

I know that one man wore you down,

Broke you — shattered you into a million pieces,

And threw back the soul-love you showered upon him,

As he stole your peace of mind, your health, your babies, your sanity.

******

I see you hanging on tight, fingernails torn and bloody,

And yes, you almost gave up, believing you were done with this world,

But girl, you have the heart of a lion, the courage of an elephant,

And the strength of an angel,

Trust me — it won’t be easy but…….

You’ll return to the land of the living once more!

******

You’ll dig deep and discover your warrior spirit,

Ride the waves of grief and piece yourself back into the beautiful being you’re destined to be,

You’ll become a force of destruction to any who try to ride your back,

And your smile will return!

******

You’ll not only survive this period of devastation,

But you’ll excel and metamorphosis into a battle angel that cannot be beaten.

******

Your dreams will come true,

You’ll follow your hopes and build mountains to reach your goals,

Travel the path of peace and walk away from a love that cripples,

That one so undeserving of you!

******

You will find your self-worth and never allow another to destroy this new found self-love,

You’ll conquer your fears and face your adversary.

******

I guarantee you’ll look back with pride,

Realising that he may have destroyed you, but you rose once again,

Leaving him in the dust, you smiling, as he realises he lost the best thing he ever had,

Threw away a once-in-a-lifetime love; a love you gifted him freely.

******

You’ll come into your own,

And win this battle you now fight.

******

Dear Colleen, I’m here waiting for you,

Two decades down the track, calling your name,

Rooting for you,

Trusting in you,

And excited for the future you don’t yet see.

******

Trust me, I’ll guide you through the turmoil.

******

You’ve a life of adventure to look forward to,

A life destined to gift you joy, happiness, honesty and peace,

Miracles will abound to bring it all together,

And all your hard work will pay off.

*******

Hold tight my girl, the ride will be rough but so totally worth it,

— Your loving future self.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
