You See Color.

On Being Miscolored

By WandererPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

I walk around on a green earth that has blue skies with teeth that smile white.

Just like you.

My blood be blue

Until exposed to the air.

Yours do too.

I stop at red traffic signs.

I accelerate through green and yellow traffic lights.

I hide from unwelcome, fluorescent spotlight, but when I do seek it, it's stolen.

Sometimes envy colors me green.

You too. I've seen.

I have loved and been loved. Loved and lost.

Red heart be scary, but worth it.

It's something that's easy for me to be lost in. Yellow-green, corn maze love.

We have that in common.

I pound the black tar pavement when I visit home,

And avoid brass bullets,

And cry over red spilled blood in my beloved neighborhood.

Yellow caution tape shows the boundary between community and crime scene.

But they are one and the same.

You and I? We are not.

I'm expected to have my nations flag pour from my veins as I go to work thousands of miles away sacrificing for a red, white and blue that doesn't bleed me.

In camel-colored sand, I drop translucent tears that no one hears.

I'm big tall tree in forrest green.

Unicorn they call me.

Never seen nothing like me.

Don't really think they like me.

But they hype me.

Yet they fight me every step of the way.

Golden paths they guide me on be cheap and turn neck green.

I am my tears... I just do not feel seen.

Abundant green earth- I will always be a giver. It may be the end of me.

Green traffic light- I'm consistent.

I'm not violet proud of it, but I be emboldened by green envy sometimes. Imperfect.

I'm hard to navigate- green corn maze.

I be larger than you realize, full of life, mysterious, jaw dropping- forrest green.

I hold myself up despite cheap jewelry you call chain I call shackle- neck green.

You acknowledge that I'm brown,

...but don't see color.

You just don't see what you're looking for.

Of the whole palette, you never expected a dream like this to present itself and identify as green.

But I'm rich green like money.

I'm fresh breath of air green like tree.

I'm not holding nobody back- green traffic light tact.

I'm good for all of you! Green stool healthy diet.

I'm Aloe Vera healer green.

I'm rare. Not diamond, but emerald. I come at higher cost.

I’m- you see me everywhere you look green.

Don't tell me you don't see color.
