You Don’t Need Us Anymore

You should remember One day you will miss us

You Don’t Need Us Anymore

You don’t need us anymore;

not in the pauses between breaths,

not in the hours where silence

used to echo our names.

Your smile belongs

to new laughter now,

your feet tread paths

we were never meant to follow.

We faded like outlines

in a rain-washed chalk dream,

no grand goodbye,

just space where once we stood.

You gather your days

in arms that replace us,

and the memories,

ours, not yours.

Hurt sits in our chests.

Of the days you needed us

and we where there.

Still,

we wish you well.

you just moved on,

leaving us alone

you don’t need us any more.

A poem of growing up and leaving home and in hopes that others will still be remembered. Good job.

My kids are growing up too fast Marie. I hope I never know this pain, but alas it may be inevitable 😥 On the up side however, there might be some peace and quiet 😂 Nice poem!
