Yellow Flowers

A poem about growing up and being a woman.

Yellow Flowers

If I were a yellow flower

However should it be?

Should the sun bow down to hug me

Should the stars shine just to see

I ask if I were a yellow flower

However should it be?

If I were a yellow flower

However could it be?

Could my Mommy and my Daddy

Be so very proud of me?

When they’d look upon my color

Could their faces beam with glee?

I asked if I were a yellow flower

However could it be?

Can you see, can you see?

The burst of beauty caught my eye

I’d be foolish to deny

And so I’d smile and admire

If only for a little while

If I were a yellow flower

My beauty would you seek?

Bright yellow petals fair

Away would you sneak?

Would you wait outside for hours

Just for a little peak

She asks if I were a yellow flower

However would it be?

Could it be, could it be

Or have I been deceived?

Delicate little trinkets

A joy to perceive,

Even more so to achieve.

If I were a yellow flower

I’d be mine and mine alone

Everywhere I may go

I would always be home.

When I’d need some shelter

I’d just hide beneath a stone.

If I were a yellow flower

Wherever would I roam?
