Writings on the wall

From the padded room in my mind

By YasPublished 7 months ago Updated 7 months ago 1 min read

The year ends and a new one begins.

This uneasy feeling like something's missing and I can't quite put a finger on it.

It is the unknown.

I don't have a lot of joy going into the new year. There is so much uncertainty.

The new year starts and just as I feel it, I get the boot at the company.

"Goodbye" they say, unceremoniously - words that signal the beginning of my battle for fair compensation.

It means the beginning of the search for new ventures - a quest to find a way. In reality, square one.

'The lord has humbled His own', you say to yourself.

But it's not over.

One day you wake up and say "Ah, what's that over there?"

You finally see the light.

But wait, here it comes. The words that truly send you to the padded room in your mind.

He says to me, "I'm sorry, it's over. But here's a cake for your birthday today. I love you, but it's just not enough"

And when it feels like it's beginning to quiet down, when you've found a new place to lay your head, you realize all the dreams you once had are on hold.

So you ask to be held tight. You ask for a restraint you cannot break out of. You sit in this padded room in your mind, until one day it is safe to live again. Alas! The pain did not kill you. It did drive you insane. But you come out fine, fine enough to live another day.

Really sad, I had a hard time reading this. I hope this wasn't something you went through. Nicely written.
