Writers, Reading Their Work
An event that I spent part of my evening at tonight
It was my privilege to attend writers reading their writing. Poetry, biographies, and non-fiction were all read. One of the writers had a birthday so there was singing and cupcakes for all. One writer had her first book published. A couple writers were reading their writing for the first time.
My son said, "What did you read Mom? Did you have a good time?" I really did have a good time but I didn't read anything. I took something to read, and then I had second thoughts as most were choosing sad material to read due to the effects from the school shootings in their city yesterday.
I knew they were having open mic at the end. It was two hours of readings and by the end of that time, I was ready to go home. I had a long day as I spent the day with a five year old granddaughter and an eleven year old granddaughter. We went to a slide park with probably 20 slides.
Then we had lunch and went shopping. I got something first and I took them to Old Navy as the eleven year old wanted to go there. Everything was on sale and there was a big line waiting to check out. Then we went to the park and they spent time on the swing, and went swimming.
The sun was out
The weather had some clout
I spent the day with two grands
Hubby called saying he missed me
We just left him and he stands
firm on not wanting to come, he
hates the traffic in the city
and the number of people see
He is kind of an old bitty
I know he wouldn't like that term
and I have a hard time with that
reference for women. And he's a brat.
Okay, it was nice of him to call
right away this morning, that's all.

Looks like you had a wonderful time! What flavour were those cupcakes? Hehehe
I love reading your stories on daily activities and equal time spent with family. Lol, I wonder what your hubby say about the poem part about him?
Aww, Denise, you should have read your work as well. I’m sure people would have been delighted.
This put a smile on my face :-). Such a warm mix of everyday life, family moments, and the experience of being at a writers’ reading. The playful poem at the end tied it all together beautifully.
