How Many Steps Was It Anyway
Not enough to kill me, but it came close
Challenge: Somewhere between here and there...
Prompt:
Write a poem that takes place mid-thought, mid-walk, or mid-sentence.
Just leave me here
Go on without me hear
"Mom, we are not leaving you here!"
"Come on, it's not that much further!"
I have already walked all of them and I'd rather
die, than go one step more. I have a lather
of sweat forming as I sit here
I said just leave me here, did you hear
me? Would you rather
carry me to the top or gather
me up later.
She sat down and said, I'm not leaving you
Your are my mom and what you do
I do. So there. It's now up to you.
Pretty dramatic I know, but you had to be there
How I made it down was one thing, but here
I am, dying. Yes, the waterfall was beautiful there
but was it worth dying for it is my question for you
okay, well, just give me a chance to rest and maybe
I can make it the rest of the way after a nap. We'll see/

‘Would you rather carry me to the top or gather me up later’ a line of soft desperation. I like the inner monologue and the determination of your daughter to get you on the same path and at the same pace. I liked the shift of attention towards the waterfall too 🤗♥️
I love the fun mix of humour and exhaustion woven into this! 😅
Great take on the challenge, and I have been in both sides of these situations
Great poem, Denise, reminded me of my mom and me so much.
Very nice, Denise. I have been up walks like that, and when you get to the top, you look back and say, "Was that really worth it?"
