Word Of The Day
October 23, 2024
Palaver - unimportant or meaningless talk. Merriam -Webster
The word of the day is Palaver, not Wednesday I say
it makes sense when certain people are talking today
It sounds like copying from a script
sometimes AI sounds just like it.
~
A woman said, "I'm just following the party line"
Is that what the world has come to I whine
It's important to know where I stand
Research is something that helps me land
on my truth. Something I can stand behind.
~
I fall far from where she is. Her chatter is meaningless
sometimes I will say, "Please do your own research, Miss."
And I don't mean just Fox News, which is now entertainment news.
Is that news at all then if it is entertainment, I muse
~
In my 70 years, this has brought me to tears, not this rhyme
In all my years I have seen nothing like this except for the last time
as it seems the goal is to divide. In my house, we can't talk
about the state of the country and government. I balk
at all the anti-this and anti that I never heard before
other than a joke here or there, never more
than that. Now it is the truth. Seen different from mine
Thank God that I have family and friends that shine
and validate my beliefs or I may think I am crazy
to believe in loving your neighbor and not being lazy
by overlooking the truth for someone else's rhetoric
making personal health decisions when sick
or injured, and not the church or the government
making those choices for me, I lament.
~
Okay, it will be clear who agrees and who disagrees
as we are just so divided, I don't know if this will ever be fixed
it is a scary time in the world right now. So many agree
with me and many don't hear or appear transfixed.
It is a scary time and I know it is not me I have to worry about
but future generations. I won't live much longer no doubt.
I voted! Please vote. I want this to be a meaningful talk, reaching out
And not a Palaver, yes sir!

Well said… and I do love the word Palaver!😃
Hahahahahahaha I initially did think the word of the day was Wednesday 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I've never heard of palaver before, thank you for teaching me a new word. Loved your poem!
You have stated your opinions in a very creative way. It is election time and to me that is a time of palaver all around and you really do not know what to believe from anyone. One must live in what they believe, and God is the ultimate leader in all things.
