The lawn of the Estate
rolled in green for what seemed miles,
falling off to the edge
where the cliff crashed into the surf.
The house stood opulent
with doors and windows open
tea party spilling out on the lawn.
Dainty cups and saucers paper thin
that royalty would share
a Doulton design.
Little girls in fancy frocks
and shiny black shoes
white ankle socks falling down.
They sat at little tables with tea poured
with added milk a must waiting
to select scones with Devonshire cream
While the sun and surf cast
Luminous shadows and spray.
