Woes of a mythical creature

a poem.

In a teenager's cave of dreams

Lies a dragon knocking gently on glass

She filed back her claws and fangs

Braided wool to cover her bright diamond scales

Swallowed peaches and plums and sugary drinks

So her voice would be honey sweet.

Out in a daisy field

Hiding in the light of fading fallen stars

Is a unicorn.

She filed back her horn

And washed the glow from her hooves.

Watch her tackle and tame her curling mane

At a chance to not falter because she flies.

See the lion-bodied sphinx

Meet to play netball with the griffins,

But just like the sirens would remind her always,

She's not welcome in either of their teams.
