Helen stood with her hands clasped in front of her to visualize a better world. She loved to pretend that her imaginings were actually happening, escaping from the ordinariness of life to fill herself with the feeling of being alive.
Little Helen played in the flower garden and forgot her pain and loneliness. There were beautiful images created by the roses in front of her that fluttered about as butterflies played in the air. Little Helen had always wanted to play the mental painter's game.
This was to take a look at everything around her, close her eyes, and use her imagination to paint the surrounding beauty in her mind's eye. But it wasn't just that. She wanted to include details that weren't actually there based on what she thought would fit in with her surroundings.
An extra basil plant in the planter, a turtle sitting beside the bench, and possibly a butterfly with its wings open.
She once heard that those who perceive God more have a very strong imagination. That is why she wanted so much to reach Him, so He wouldn't worry that she wasn't trying.
Will you try with her?
