Why mom, why?

A poem for those with a complicated relationship with their mother

Why mom, why?

Why do you stay with my stepdad?

The stepdad who made comments about my boobs?

Who made sexual innuendos directed at me?

When I was only 14?

Who said the N-word as a white male?

Who continues to blame girls for dressing "revealing"

and saying it's their fault he's staring?

Why mom, why?

Do you stay with a guy I'm scared of?

With someone who makes me afraid to shower,

or to even sleep?

Why mom, why?

Would you stay with such a horribly man?

Someone who doesn't even remember his horrible actions?

Why would you talk about him constantly?

I know you think you love him,

but it's hurting me.

Why would you let your own daughter hurt,

for a man who isn't worth it?
