Why leave me now?

How can you walk away from us with her?

Why leave me now?

You’re in my blood,

flowing through my veins,

we were each other’s heart —

forever, I thought.

How can you say

you’ve found a new love,

someone you adore,

while I stand

an afterthought,

unwanted,

forgotten,

a nothing?

Did my touch turn cold

without me knowing?

Did my words lose their weight

while yours still burned in me?

I was a whisper

you learned to ignore,

a shadow fading

while you lit a new flame.

Tell me,

was I ever more than silence

filling the spaces

between your heartbeats?

Or was I just a wound

you were waiting

to heal over,

to disappear?

So go,

let your new love wear

the crown I once held,

let them drink from the cup

I once filled with my soul.

But remember,

blood doesn’t forget,

and neither do ghosts.
