Why Did You Marry Me

I want a divorce

Why Did You Marry Me

I ask for love

not riches or praise

just a glance that says

I matter

You come home

but never really come home

your eyes flick past me

like I’m noise

I lay beside you

but you turn the other way

I reach out

your silence slams back

Did you mean it

when you said forever

or did you say it

because you thought you should

Was I ever wanted

or just a safe bet

someone to tick a box

while your heart stayed locked

I cooked

I smiled

I stayed soft

you grew hard

I begged in small ways

touches, looks, words

you gave me

shrugs and cold shoulders

Why did you choose me

to make me feel

less than

invisible

Was it love once

or did I imagine it all

because I needed

something to believe in

Why did you marry me

to treat me

like this.

At times I guess we all learn various things the hard way and in hopes they will work out somehow and someday. Good work.

Marriage is a strange thing. Every marriage has a journey, some just don't end up where you want them to. It's like getting lost on a road. Nice, Maire, very nice. 😉😉

your poems are so realistic and heartfelt, they feel autobiographical.
