“When you hear the word ‘disabled,’ people immediately think about people who can’t walk or talk or do everything that people take for granted. Now, I take nothing for granted. But I find the real disability is people who can’t find joy in life and are bitter.” -Teri Garr

Who you see

Isn’t always who

You get.

You so often

Have this vision

Of a life paved in

Tragedy.

But honestly

I don’t need your

Pity.

~~~~~~
You have this
Distorted image
Of who
You think
I should be,
A life you
Think limits
Me,
But you are
So quick
To box
Me into
A broken
Category,
Instead of getting
To know me.
~~~~~~

You think

You know

Me

By a broken

Image

Of who

You think

I am.

    Another Great Article. And yes, PTSD is a disability, although my murdered son worked hard all his short life, in spite of his PTSD, and he even worked the night he was killed.

    As a disabled person I salute you! You're perfectly captured feelings I have very often. There are also a lot more disabilities that aren't physical as well. A lot of people don't realize that PTSD is a disability as well. Great job!
