You are rich.
Your house is smart.
You have two Teslas
in your driveway.
You vacation in
Maldives and Costa Rica.
And eat caviar and truffles.
But...
You take pills
for high blood pressure.
May be you underwent
chemotherapy or
organ transplant.
You drop kids early
at daycare.
You see your spouse
in the evening.
Both tired,
you want solitude.
You order pizza dinner.
This poor man
lives in a cottage
and owns a bicycle.
He goes to the village fair.
But he is healthy.
He sleeps under the starry night
in his own courtyard.
His wife cooks fresh meals.
His kids play with
each other and chickens.
He has a huge jackfruit tree—
its bounty he shares.
He has no idea
of the modern language
you speak.
But he sure knows,
without going to
a fancy college,
that alcohol, drugs,
stress, and loneliness
aren’t good.
He lives—
till his hair turns grey,
close to the earth,
wrapped in love.
Now who is rich?
It's about perspectives.
