Whitby - The Town of Steps

While walking through Whitby I noticed a remarkable number of houses have front doors approached by very long flights of usually stone steps, and most of them are very impressive but hardly practical in many ways.

I assume these houses can be approached from the rear for deliveries and post and everyday access.

Then of course we have the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey that you can read about here.

I was thinking of writing a story about it, but then thought 600 words on there being a lot of steps in Whitby, so I will share some pictures and a poem, a chain haiku. Below is my article on poetry forms.

Walking Through Whitby

I See The Big Houses Here

All With Many Steps

Down Past Pannett Park

So Many Steps To Front Doors

Will Keep People Fit

Some Smaller Houses

Have A Lot Less Than Ten Steps

But Stairways Impress

Steps, Steps And More Steps

Whitby Has So Many Flights

Stairways To Their Homes
