Nasty little thoughts

A pinch of panic

A punch of pain

And a whisper of doubt

It’s fun creating demons

Angry little monsters with dark little voices

If you close your eyes long enough

And let them whisper

Let their insidious orchestra climb like notes up your skin

Leave their tiny claw marks on your mind

Little imaginary friends to never leave you alone

You tell a lie

You fake a smile

You close your eyes and feel your anxiety rise

With every action

Anxious little monsters

Jumping with enthusiasm and swirling with joy

Constant companions

Master manipulators

They keep me company

Whisper that I should be alone

Console me with promises never to leave

Evil little monsters that are so fun to create

And so hard to destroy
