Every person experiences more nuanced emotions than can ever be counted.
We have names for most of them- a general understanding of the basic ones. More than that, we have emotions and understandings of which ones are considered “good” or “bad”.
Happiness, Anger, Sadness, Excitement, Grief, Frustration….et cetera.
I wrote this poem to describe how anger can affect someone. We think of anger as the violent emotion, and it is that, but it’s also an emotion that teaches us strength and self-control.
There have been times where I had to bite my tongue and take criticism or deal with an unfair situation and it was those times that I fought the hardest. Against myself.
Through the Eyes
A million thoughts fight behind quiet eyes
Emotions shove against nerves
Rage hits rationale in the mouth
Calm is pinned beneath the hulking mass that is frustration
Indignations simmers beneath the surface
Trying to claw its way into the ring of your pupil
Desperate to be free to be seen
Bitterness climbs up a choked throat
Settling on a desperate tongue
Ready to spew forward hate and anger
The entire fight
Quiet, behind troubled eyes
Aglow with intense light
