Where Have You Been?
A poem of hope and of a journey

Where Have You Been?
Where have you been?
I have been searching for you all my life,
I have felt so alone
My path has been filled with pain and strife
Where have you been?
I have put on a good front pretending,
Putting on an act
like I am standing but really sinking,
Where have you been?
All I ever wanted was to be was strong,
But I am just weak
Just once can things go right and not go wrong
Where have you been?
I am really tired of feeling lost
I just want someone
To see me for me no matter the cost
Where are you now?
I have given all I have all my love,
And received nothing
I am someone you take advantage of
Where are you now?
You have left my heart in a pile of dust
But im now reborn
Rebuilding and healing me is a must
Where have I been?
I wont stop fighting till I reach the top
It will not be easy
It may take a while I will not give up
Where have I been?
I learned my lesson love comes from within
Not from others
I’m the only person I need to win
Here is where I am!
I have found out how valuable I am
I am not perfect
But with me it’s like hitting a grand slam
Here is where I am!
I finally found out what true love is
You can’t love others
Until you become your own happiness
Here is where I am!
My whole life is a beautiful painting
The things that brought pain
Made the most beautiful things amazing
Here is where I am!
My past is only part of my story
I am not ashamed
My scars have been turned into His glory
Behind the Poem:
When I sat down to write this poem, unlike any poem I have written, I knew the beginning, the middle and the end. I just didn't know the words that would be the poem. I wanted to write a poem that gave hope. A poem that showed a journey from despair and depression to victory and hope. Even though the poem isn't about my life and a particular event in my life, I can relate with what this person is going through. I could relate and touch the different feelings of the different stages of the journey. We all have journeys to travel, and we can relate with the journey. I wanted to give hope to those who might be at the first two stages and allow them to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That there is hope, when you feel hopeless. Like a lot of my poetry, when I read it I am amazed by what came out of me and early on in my poetry journey, this is one of the poems I am most proud of. I wrote this poem, so that each section could stand on its own as a mini poem. It is broken down in three sections. Thank you for support and I appreciate you. My hope is that we all can have and share hope, even when we cant see it.
This was the second poem I have ever written. If you would have told me back in high school, that one day I would write poetry. I would have laughed at you. I hated English and it was my worst subject. Sometimes I even surprise myself. I found poetry because of Covid-19. Sometimes the worst things send us on the greatest journeys.
