When You're Having Fun

The Ticks

By Gerard DiLeoPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read
I hear an alarm, time with you, ever-so now'er.

The clock strikes four, but I want four more

Before time flies, past, I can't everlast

Time passed, past, the bottom of my hour

The alarm sounds, time with you, ever-so now'er

.

I asked — I want and I don't want — to know

What time it was — for us — an hour ago

The ticks suck blood, but I'm here, stuck in place

On a people-mover pushing me — ambushing — your pace

No two clocks chime, aligned, in time.

Your face, in a race, to a place

We both seek existence, in tandem, betwixtence

Yet no two clocks chime — aligned — in time

Synchronicity — so often — is of mythic proportion

.

Just another hour would give me the power

To grasp viscerally, differently

But time marches on and even flies — cautionary — at times

I circle your black hole clawing stationary rhymes

No one, cunning, stops a stopwatch from running.

To stop the clock is fully folly, ad hoc

To let it, feckless, reckless, run while it's fun

Is careless, too, for the romantic in you

No one, cunning, stops a stopwatch from running

.

Mainspring strains — ingrained — twained timeframes

Lovers circle each other, ruddered, like calves at the udders

While time always runs, it runs — out — and about

What we're doubly about, deals double-doubt in our druthers

The habitable zone is not navigable alone.

Devotion horizons are dangerous environs

We angst for buoyancy 'gainst centrifugate truancy

For the habitable zone is not navigable alone

Unpaired orbits — decay — on tragic, magic carpets

.

When urges diverge — timelines purge

Intents divulged rent all those involved

The tears we leave in space just freeze in place

Devotion dystrophic is — for everyone — entropic

.

As duality pales, gravity fails

We each will fall — as one — into the sun

Unbuckled, distinct; uncoupled, extinct

Therein collapsing into the smallest thing

This felt like song lyrics to me and I sang it to my own tune! Those pictures complemented your poem so well!
