When we open our hearts

On love

By Jen WillisPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

When we open our hearts to love

We also awaken our whole being to the beauty of the world around us

Nature comes alive in all her splendour

Colours, smells, sounds that we bask in the true glory of

We celebrate the ant that has journeyed a thousand miles up the tree

The tree that has stood tall for decades shading the delicate mosses and lichens that embrace the rock

The rock that is older than any understanding of time we have and grounds us with its strength

The creek that flows to bring life to the forest

The sun streaming through the canopy and waking the world below

The bright yellow of the dandelion and it’s root that can nourish us

The song of the birds as they too awaken to this new day

The crickets and beetles and spiders

The webs that capture the morning dew and glisten in the sun

The incredible intricacies of the spider’s web, of the forest and of the connectedness of all it’s beautiful elements

We awaken to our own beauty and belonging in this majestic and precious world

When we open our hearts to love

love poems
