When Roses Burn
*

Beat my bones against your walls
Chasing shadows down the halls
Sic the dogs to track your smell
Knowing this path leads straight to hell
Call the psychic, call the priest
Cut my skin to find relief
Symbols pronounce a promised peace
Interpret the meaning of release
Cold the fire that burns the night
Hot the flash that blinds your eyes
Fear creates new appetites
When accolades are black and white
Burning roses for the scent
Confessing sins and your revenge
A change of heart demands repent
When every dollar left is spent
Play the game and win the prize
No desire will be denied
The answer waits there in your eyes
Accepting truth or alibis

I love this! Your best, I think. I often pick a line I liked best, or one I lingered on, but I can't for this because it's all of them!
Deep and several lines of thought. I especially like the contrast in these two lines: Cold the fire that burns the night Hot the flash that blinds your eyes Good job Kelli
Another poem that will have one thinking about themselves and their other.
Very powerful words. Haunting yet beautiful. Love it.
This is a visceral, potent and haunting poem, Kelli! Several powerful lines, some simply stopped me in my tracks! Of note: Beat my bones against
