Loving, Losing, and Loving Again
Too often
loved and lover
become user and used.
Too often
a partnership
becomes a game of win or lose.
Too often
good intentions
have painful consequences.
Too often
people give up
and dwell on past offenses.
Too often
people shield their hearts
and choose to run away.
Too often
people don't have faith
won't do the work, won't choose to stay.
Too often
people choose to take
and leave before they start to care.
Too often
those who choose to give
are hurt and left, though it's unfair.
Too often
people don't have faith
that love can work and does exist.
Too often
skeptics are just scared
and so they should know this:
Too often
we cannot predict
what someone else will do.
Too often
we may never know
what was real or true.
Too often
we don't have control
but let's put fears behind us.
We can control
that which we do
when love happens to find us.
We can do good
and do our best
when love happens to find us.
We can have hope
and do the work
when love happens to find us.
We can believe
in what can be
when love happens to find us.
