I thought the sun was blue

when I had not the courage

to peer beyond its glare and through.

-

I thought the sea was green

when I hadn't searched beneath

the surface to be seen.

-

I thought all eyes held me

when I was reflected in all they saw

and it was all I can see.

-

I thought all worlds were wet

when tears gripped my lashes

and left my heart in debt.

-

I thought life was nice

when days were of youth and joy

and I had yet to pay a price.
