When Decades Sang

Seventies

Dancing Queen, staying alive,

Hotel California, night fever drives.

Bohemian Rhapsody, imagine this,

American Pie with a rock and roll kiss.

Let it be, don’t stop me now,

Bridge over troubled water somehow.

Maggie May, the long and winding road,

I will survive, my heavy load.

Knockin’ on heaven’s door,

Go your own way, forever more.

Your song plays, lean on me,

Stay with me, set you free.

Eighties

Wake me up before you go-go,

Girls just want to have fun,

Sweet child o’ mine in the spotlight,

Don’t stop believin’, we’ve only begun.

Every breath you take,

Careless whisper in the night,

With or without you I wander,

Tainted love out of sight.

Total eclipse of the heart,

Nothing’s gonna stop us now,

Time after time we remember,

Always — love makes the vow.

Nineties

Smells like teen spirit,

Wonderwall in the rain,

Vogue in the rhythm of freedom,

I want it that way again.

Tears in heaven calling,

Creep in the shadows near,

Nothing compares to you,

Losing my religion here.

Don’t look back in anger,

Alive with a stronger vow,

My heart will go on forever,

I’ll be there for you now.

When Songs Become Poems

It’s only words, don’t get me wrong

Let’s dance, clap along,

To my happy song.

I remember you from a distance,

We almost made it, me and you.

We don’t talk anymore,

We don’t say goodbye,

We’re holding on,

Let the heartaches begin.

Miss you nights, heart of stone,

Bye bye baby, baby come back.

Let the children play, be happy,

Hold me close, let’s dance,

The last tango in Paris.

So there you go, please tell me what you think ?

Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this poem, Miss Marie. You are so right when songs become poems and poems become songs. Good job.

Absolutely loved this. Creatively done, and all songs recognizable.
