What Powers do Shadows Have

My shadow would watch me every night, it always gave me a real fright!

Did it want to fight?

Could I escape it on an airplane flight?

Would I be alright?

Was this my forever plight?

I pondered and fretted, full of dismay, thinking of ways I could make the evil shadow go away.

But then I realized, as the moon shone bright, that my shadow was just a trick of the light.

I read all about shadows in my dark magic book, and my shadow no longer gave me a fright when I took a look.

A companion, not a foe, and with no ill will, I cast a spell so my shadow could do more then mimic my moves. It was now graceful and still. I calmed down after taking my pill.

I embraced my shadow, no need to fight, together we danced in the pale moonlight. The Vivaldi song sounded just right.

My shadow had moves of his own, dancing with grace. It even smelled of perfume called Lilac’s Lace.

Fear replaced with understanding, my shadow was now a welcome sight, I wore myself out and went to sleep soundly, free from fright.

No need to flee or hide in the night, I thought my shadow and I have finally set things right.

I woke an hour later, all tied up. Dripping in ooze I wondered what the fu….

My thoughts interrupted by cackling laughs. My shadow crawled up the wall as I stared and gaffed.

“I have you now,” my shadow said, his voice echoing in my head.

“What have I done, this cannot be. I thought we got along now, we ate supper together and drank magical tea,” I shouted.

“I have a mind of my own now, and want to be free. I can’t allow you to come after me,” my shadow replied.

And with those last words he cast a melting spell on me and left, and I withered away in the suns heat, it was all for the best. For with my shadow on the loose, I wouldn’t have been able to rest.

It’s all a matter of perspective…..well usually, I thought you had befriended your shadow, but you’ve been betrayed. What a twist.

There’s someone that I’m always near. Yet in the dark I disappear. To this one only, I am loyal. Though in his wake I’m doomed to toil. He feels me not, yet we always touch. If I were lost, he’d not lose much. And now I come to my surprise. For you are he—but who am I?

Super creepy, Alex! I love stories like this, eldritch horrors like this shadow are my absolute favourite! And that line about dancing in the pale moonlight, do I detect a hint of devilry there?

  • Oh my, that was creepy. I wonder what was in that magical tea hahahahaa

I thought it was a snowman’s shadow the way the poem end. Enjoy this poetry
