What Hunger Taught My Soul

"Finding Strength in the Depths of Need"

By Solomon Ogunsanya Published about a year ago 1 min read

Hunger came, unbidden and fierce,

A silent thief, a jagged pierce.

It stripped away the layers of ease,

And left me yearning for simple reprieve.

It wasn’t just bread, or rice, or wine,

It was the aching for something divine.

For warmth, for love, for a hand to hold,

For dreams I had traded for scraps of gold.

Hunger whispered in the dead of night,

"You're more than this struggle, this endless fight."

It showed me strength I’d buried deep,

Awakened truths that had long been asleep.

It taught me the value of a single crumb,

Of battles fought, of songs unsung.

It showed me the wealth in an honest smile,

In finding joy through every trial.

Hunger became my harshest guide,

A mirror reflecting my wounded pride.

It carved out spaces for gratitude's flame,

And gave my spirit a new name.

I learned that scarcity builds the brave,

That from the ashes, we rise and save.

What hunger taught my soul is this:

That even in longing, there’s room for bliss.

For though it starved my body thin,

It nourished the fire that burns within.

And now I walk, not just to survive,

But with the strength to truly thrive.
