Welcome to the Rain
Welcome rain, after the hottest day.
When roads dry, surface tar melts away.
The bins stinking from the heat,
dogs thirsty and tired from the sun.
Just a drop, then two, then more arrives.
It patters, against the concrete drive.
The pigeons tired, feathers stuck with sweat.
The air, once tight, begins to realign.
A boy kicks off his shoes, to feel the splash.
Old women nod, beneath the thunder’s crash.
The drains awake, and start to move again.
Town folk are happy, thanks to the rain.
So welcome, rain, you amazing thing.
You cool the heat, and make us sing.
You wash us clean, with cool wet drops.
You come with thunder, I hear its roar

Fabulous!!!
There's so many images in this poem. I love how you stop for a moment on each one and describe what's going on. It's like there's a camera moving down a street in the town and you can see each mundane bit of what's going on - but it's not really mundane, it's actually quite special. I love your poetry. ❤️ It has so much soul.
Love it because I also too much to walk in the rain.
