Welcome Home for Dinner
Funeral Potatoes and Green Jell-O

Welcome Home
Welcome Home
Welcome Home for dinner
Each of us been gone so long
Mama says we’re looking thinner
And in this special festive time we welcome loved ones
with friends who have been guested
Older brother would be here
If he had not been arrested
Sister dear; came out as queer
Her special friend is neither man nor woman
The nephews ate the mashed potatoes
Before anyone else could get some
The nieces are all tucked away
And swapping chewing gum
Aunts and uncles , second cousins
Wall to wall and room to room are echoes of their hum
All the food is piled up
they've brought a dish to share
Every dish each one has brought
a way to say they care
Potatoes, stuffing, carrots greens,
Beans with onion crisps atop
No one ever picked up grandma
She’s still at the town bus stop
