We Wear Masks

A poem I wrote about hiding.

I walk around like they say

"These empty halls"

I might break

I look into the mirror there

My head is spinning I don't like the sound

People started coming out

Wearing black

Wearing masks

And I still watch them

Couples holding hands

Their fake smiles are attached

But I'm the only one who can see the truth.

People keep looking at me

I don't know what they see

So I rushed into the bathroom mirror

I look and then I see

I'm not wearing a mask, why is that?

But then I realize because I don't like hiding from the truth.

I look again and there they are

still wearing their masks but I am not

I start to scream, "Why, Why, Why"

They ignore the fact that they know what I am talking about

Why don't they read between the lines

Am I the only one who still doesn't like to lie

But then she came up to me

With her blond locks

About 4'5

Wearing white

Looking at me

"I see you"

"I know you"

"I will walk with you"

Taking off her mask

"I don't like to hide either"

Holding her hand with tears in my eyes

We walk away

In case you didn't understand...

A teenage girl in her school is wondering the halls. She finally learns that she doesn't want to hide anymore. She doesn't want to be the same as everyone else, she doesn't want to follow in people's footsteps if that means that she has to be alone. People are coming out of their classes and she sees everyone faking a smile, faking a laugh, faking and hiding the fact that they are ok. They look at her because they want to be her, they don't feel like they want to hide anymore but they don't want to take off their "Mask" because they want to follow society, they want to be like everyone else, they don't want to let go of what they "Have" but in reality when they take off their Masks they are free because they don't have to hide anymore but they are so comfortable they keep walking and Ignore the truth, faking their happiness. The teenage girl wants to free everyone, she feels bad for them, she want to help them but they don't want help. They are too lost but she believes even one life she can save so she screams and she yells for them to hear her but they don't see her. The little girl in white represents freedom, support, purity, and life. When she takes off her mask means that she was just in disguise to free the teenage girl who she saw hurting the most. When she finally comes out and finally accepts the truth the little girl appears to take her away from all of the people wearing black and masks because she doesn't want her to go back into the hole, she doesn't want her to be dragged into the mess she fought so hard to came out of. She wants her to forget and put it pass her thats why they walk together at the end.
