We Cannot Breathe

The world around me and my place in it!

As members of this great big earth

We’re never taught to respect its worth

We plunder, tax, and ravage the planet

Polluted air and brackish seas

Mother Earth Screams I cannot breathe

9 minutes and 29 seconds

Enough time for jovial words or so I reckon

This is not the case for a Minnesota man

Instead, he cries, begs, and pleads

George Floyd rasps I cannot not breathe

Here to preach love has to win

For me, for she, for he, for them

We fight for those in our present, future, and our past

From barbed wires, life support, and 6-feet deep

Matthew Shepard cries I cannot breathe

From equals to men’s slaves, to equals again

Oh wait, glass walls and ceilings surround them

A 5-4 ruling took even more away

As many gasped in disbelief

Women shocked they cannot breathe

You’re not alone in these harsh fights

We’ll cleanse the world from hated blight

With gathering, shouting, and many signs

So much injustice to make you seethe

I’ll give my breath so you can breathe
