We Are All Lonely Sometimes

A side effect of being human.

We are a crowd of people

lying to ourselves constantly.

We surround ourselves with people

so we are not lonely,

but deep inside, we are at our loneliest.

***

He is a man in love with a woman

who loves a different man at night.

They are each lonely;

him in unrequited passion,

her with her secrets.

***

She is tormented with inner demons,

they claw away at her joy

as her perfect facade laughs and smiles

Inside she dreams of a day

when she is not lonely with her pain.

***

Our differences and experiences in our lives,

the good and the bad,

they seem to become walls,

pieces no one can truly understand.

They set us apart though we try not to let it.

***

So what I guess I'm trying to say is this.

We all have moments of loneliness,

some brief, some prolonged,

and it is okay to admit it.

Lonely is a part of being human.
