what does it take for you to help
Calling out the adults that didn't help
they always told us
if you are dealing with a bully
or someone doesn't understand
when you tell them no
come to us
we'll help you
***
but when we needed help
they either did nothing
or not enough
***
did we have to be screaming
to finally be heard
did we have to come in
with bruises and cuts
with fear in our eyes
to finally be seen
did you have to see us cry and humiliated
to finally be believed
***
or did one of us
have to take things
to the point of no return
for you to finally realize
how bad it really was
***
When I was in school, there were too many cases where bullying and harassment went unchecked. Part of it was because many of the staff didn't seem to do anything or enough to help. The other part was because students didn't tell. They saw what happened, nothing or things got worst.
The only time it seem like they made a true effort to prevent or stop bullying was when it became a very big deal or because, unfortunately a kid committed suicide. Their efforts left a bit of a bittersweet taste in my mouth. Why wait until the damage was done before stepping in?
So I implore, no, I beg you, teachers and other staff members, keep your promise. Help the students who are being bullied or create an environment where it doesn't happen in the first place.

Amen Alexandria! BRAVO!!
I've experienced the same thing before. Always bullied at school. When I tell my teachers, they always tend to believe the bully. And I'll be the one to get punished. These adults are just never responsible! Loved your poem!
