We All the Time Everything and Everywhere
Sacrosanct joys and sorrows

You
are concentrated moments
every one my favorite
light-filled orbs that heart-fill skies
in their search
for someone to sense them
cuz we were just little kids
desperate to find one another
quiet knowledge of hidden gateways
and oh
how we ached
in our separate collectiveness
drinking
from unblessed wells
thinking
impossible thoughts
blinking
salty tears
whereby eyes fed soul
for future sacred springs
these things
fixed us in faith
cognizant only of forward
as a direction
while earth kept spinning
we ignored wooziness
it seemed no one else felt
learned
letters numbers formulas
yearned
much more than allowed
burned
standard hopes for outrageous ones
in trancelike precision
sans awareness meant to scare us
to be the same as everybody else
it only buried magic deeper
saw rapture taken
no’s forsaken
saved fives and tens
to hang with friends
lost touch
crammed creativity
in accepted authenticity
did what we were told
as fires within waned cold
circumstance had to give
for required breath to live
‘ere flame died
thank the heavens
stars aligned
for us each a guide
we took freedoms in isolated tandem
with reckless abandon
slammed brakes on usual convention
“transgressed” with capital T’s
(if you listened to elders on their knees)
but this confidence
my oh MY
how it frees
forged upstream
found private places
searched inner self
for remnant traces
lost track
our eyes flash-mirror comets
post-all night runs
now sure nothing could stop us
as sorcerers channeled our passions
You
are straight-no-chaser moments
pleasure reeking aftermath
everywhere exclusive legend
new rhythm sound
in daily rituals played
a tenderness found
as boys’ hands on bodies stayed
we kissed ’em all
watched their fall
met new ones
then shopped the mall
changed the way we dressed
left our hair alone
sambaed festivals
still impressed
virgin hair kinky skyward grown
lost tomorrows
grabbed innocent indulgence
licked the bowl
when no one looked
tasted ripe and ready
and on juiciness hooked
viewed films
we were forbidden to watch
got feelings hurt
gazed at scotch
laughed real hard ’til bellies sore
heard dirty jokes
laughed on the floor
swam scary-deep for ocean pearls
both figurative and literal
such the way with girls
to beauty
who became women grown
then all too soon
had kids of their own
to find in their faces clearly us projected
vital resolutions decades neglected
secret vows sealed until our souls connected
when words are insufficient
and all the numbers tally up
for times of utter loneliness
and no made-to-measure friend for rally-up
a full-crave episode of linger
looking…
and there
You
are synchronous memories
every one my jewel
each together separate center
of undiluted joys
with holy waters where we enter
indivisible Sistah twins
at our core
though little do others know
we surpass explanation
and are much
MUCH
much more

This is fabulous - nostalgic and inspirational at once. Very well done.
gorgeous work! So profound! BRAVO!
Such a liberating ending for a powerful poem! Loved your choice of words! Brilliant job!
Filled with longing, burning for something society/family would not allow, foregoing our hearts only to find them again in our children. So beautifully & achingly expressed.
💙 This is so powerful, Dani. Amazing work 👏
