We All Came By Boat

Tickling The Ivories (and Ebony’s)

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

We all know some people who truly are fake

They pretend we’re all equal and cool

Until they say something you cannot mistake

They’ve been taking us all for a fool

They lower their guard and then something slips out

The “N-Word just parted their lips

You’re caught by surprise and think, “What’s this about”

As they pushed to the center, their chips

Right there they discover their ship’s run ashore

Now their cargo hold’s riddled with leaks

There’s even a scripture we’ve all heard before

“What you harbor inside, the mouth speaks”

What makes someone think they’re a much greater race

When the difference is only the skin

They all need a lesson, a lesson in grace

But when will that lesson begin

We see and we hear all the prejudiced quotes

Telling people of color, “Go back”

They may know a piano plays beautiful notes

While forgetting the keys that are black
