Kindergarten

My mother and I

Both to school and back home

Laughing, talking, playing

2nd grade

My mother, brother, and I

Home and school, she takes us

Laughing, kicking, talking, taking

All together

5th grade

My brother and I by ourselves

With a few friends on the way home

Jumping, playing, laughing

Just us kids

Taking care of ourselves

6th grade

On my own on the way there

With my friend going home

Laughing, talking, thinking

Silence, less time

The two of us

8th grade

Still on my own there

One more going home

Talking, laughing, teaching, learning

Our merry band of three

9th grade

No more walking, only driving

Mother and myself going to

Mother, friend, and I home

Talking, working, learning

Silence, but more time

12th grade

Two friends and I

Only two get out at 7

The band hall by ourselves

Silence, much more time

Bus on the way home,

But only sometimes;

Work requires early departure,

Only myself
