Vraies Couleurs (True Colors)
A poem about what makes me unique and how color is apart my identity!

Black like my hair and eyelashes,
but my aura radiates in iridescence.
I love to flaunt my curves in my favorite color red, wearing matching accessories on my lips eyes and head.
Orange and yellow make me feel vibrant on the days I’m resonating with the sun’s rays,
and give me sunshine when life’s blues
bring me pain.
Green and purple are just too cool, like myself when I’m chilling and everyday living.
But the most important of these is brown because that represents my family, grounding, and melanin-
representation is important!
See I’m an artist not just with the pen, but with the paintbrush, educating of my students and overall openness.
Like all the colors I love so dearly,
this is what makes me different.
My ability to be free and transparent in a world where vulnerability is seen as a weakness,
strategically propels me into my destiny-
daily.
My future is as bright as my color-filled palette that I need,
so like the rainbow and all it’s wonder, see and accept me for me.
