Urban Prodigal

*Ellicott, Colorado

By Earl W. PearlPublished 4 months ago Updated 4 months ago 1 min read

Comfy life, one Army brat

Gone forever, just like that

I will miss the “melting pot”

Giving way to *Ellicott

All the former things I knew

Left in pieces, all askew

Pride is skim milk, quite reduced

Angst within was self-induced

No more pencils, no more books

Fled that land of common looks

School has ended, labeled “grown”

Prodigal, now on my own

Quickly learning just how wrong

Once true knowledge came along

Intuition flees our youth

Preconception skews the truth

Endless traffic, flagrant air

Homeless people everywhere

Consternation, yes, well-earned

Where’s that country life I spurned
