Upon Leaving My Life Behind

I see, on the horizon, a swelling brilliance that echoes in my spirit

I see, within it, all that I have ever been, all that I am now, all that I will ever be

I see a purity and strength in a realization of who I am

It is a purity and a strength that I have never known; that I will never know again

I see a fire growing, gentle and good, upon that horizon

I see the life which runs through my veins echoed in that fire

I see it in my hands as I work and I hear it in my voice as I speak

I see, now, the load my hands can hold, as I turn my face to catch that light

I see, now, the strength of purpose I have within me as it leads me forth

I see a new dawn ascending from a lonely abyss; no longer held back

There is hope within that dawn from which I can not turn away

The steps I take toward that warm place are far better than any steps I've taken before

And far better are the songs that beckon me onward

I have lived a separate life before this dawn

And I will live another life again; one of nobility and courage and grace

It is far greater, the brightness of this light, than all I have ever known

And it is a vastly greater land to which I travel than I have ever been
