Until I Feel That Way

A Poem of Hope Amidst Losing a Father

By Chris MoorePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Everything's the same as I left it last Tuesday in my house.

People act like nothing has changed at the grocery store down the way.

What they don't know is that nothing will ever be the same in the home where I was raised.

So tonight I'll put on a smile and say I'm doing okay.

That'll have to do until the day I feel that way.

Because right now I'm missing you.

Wish I could call you on the phone and get a helpful word or two.

We all knew this day would come and we hoped to carry on,

but nothing gets you ready when goodbye means you're gone.

So we'll take this one more day, one more second, one more breath.

And do our best to carry on the legacy you left.

I've never been so proud to bear your name

and I know that we all feel the same.

I wish while you were with us you could have seen how much you meant.

Sometimes Dad's are simply Heaven sent.

So tonight I'll put on a smile and say I'm doing okay.

That'll have to do until the day I feel that way.

And Daddy one day I'll see you in the place where mornings never end.

We'll take the hand of Jesus and our hearts will finally mend.

But for now I'm missing you here

and wishing you were near.

So tonight I'll put on a smile and say I'm doing okay.

That'll have to do until the day I feel that way.
