The string keeping me tethered to you—

Keeping both my feet planted firmly on the ground

As our world tilts forward and tries to eject me—

Has begun to split and fray

I scramble and grab at every hold that I have

To prevent myself from being lost from you

The fear is gripping at my soul

Threatening to rip me apart

The moment this tether unravels

For what am I without you?

Where do I go without you?

There is nothing but an empty void

At the edge of our world

I have been so long with you by my side

Or just lingering in the background

Supporting me

Encouraging me

Telling me it will be all right

What would happen if I let go?

What would happen if I fell off that ledge—without you?

The universe gives us no choice now

As the last thread strains to keep us entwined

So I take the scissors of destiny and part from you

Leap over the edge

And leave us behind

Sometimes, as threads fray, it's easier to cut the thread and fall in your own time, when you know it's coming, rather than hold on until it actually snaps and you're not prepared. Excellent piece.

Oh, harsh...but justified? Sometimes you just have to cut the thread that binds. positive actions, for best results.
