Unseen

Inspired by A. C.

"Somebody see me!" You want to scream aloud

As you go through life; a chameleon in a crowd

You feel broken. Your brain works differently than others' do

Survival is the only way through

You wear a smiling facade so they think you're okay

That your life is good and you like it this way

You seem so full of life and laughter

People say, "I want your happily ever after."

Inside you want to shout that it's all a lie

Don't they see you're so lonely that you cry?

Each day, you feel your insides die a little more

And you wonder what all of this is for

You push your thoughts aside and shrink away

Wishing they could hear what your heart longs to say

Wishing you believed that you matter at all

Or that they're not just waiting for you to fall

I've been there before. I know how it can feel

The weight of the pain and anguish you feel

Feeling invisible in the midst of a crowd

Wearing your smile like a protective shroud

So, if you feel that no one cares at all

Know I'll be there anytime you call

To help you with anything you're going through

To say sincerely, "I'm here, my friend. I see you."
