Unrequited Love

What Started as Unrequited

By Coty TerryPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

He pursued

But I ignored Him

Giving Him time

But not all of it

Taking notice

But not showing it

Choosing standards

But ones below Him

He pursued

But I kept running

To the hands of men

Who were still growing

To the feet of sin

Which left me broken

To the loveless eyes

That did not know me

He pursued

Without my asking

He pursued

Despite my actions

He pursued

And sparked my interest

Just enough so that

One day I’d listen

He pursued

Even though

I thought I was undeserving

I thought this just wasn’t for me

A love so strong

No pain could break

Its powerful bond

He pursued

Even though

I thought I was not ready

I thought this was overwhelming

How could a woman

Who did not love herself

Fathom

Loving somebody else

He pursued

Even though

I kept saying no

He pursued

Even though

I kept letting go

He pursued

On one knee

With a ring to propose

He pursued

As I fled

To the lost and unknown

And He waited

Till I saw

That wasn’t my home

He pursued

With His love that is patient

He pursued

With His love that is kind

He pursued

With His love unrequited

He pursued

Till I changed my mind

He pursued

And I’m thankful

‘Cause it was His love

That saved my life
