Unknown Faith
Please don’t take this poem too seriously.

If I was in a religion
Then where were the altars and who were the gods?
And if the justice was nothing but a sinner
Then did judgement day ever come?
And if there was a callous minister
How did he manage to entrance the flock?
If it was heresy to praise the queen of heaven
Then why was her name still called upon?
A supposed priestess desecrated tabernacles
Abandoned claimed worship and stained it in blood
After condemning her past convictions
She said, “it’s freer out of Eden’s garden”
But they say she gave into temptations
For power, control, and dark addictions
Though her faith seemed strong and her miracles were known
So were her actions and beliefs behind closed doors
It was no secret, her agnosticism towards the spiritual
But she sure threw together a sect of her own
She said their deities weren’t named as such
But that all knew the brimstone if they saw them mess up
If they ever got close to those that were shunned
They’d be condemned to the same fate and left on the run
Do I believe her claims of a doomsday cult?
Well, I believe in it as much as I had ever led the charge
When I was there, which is to say barely at all
For there is little to indicate it was enough
There were powerful people left rather unchecked
But in many senses, you could still be direct
Disagreements didn’t automatically mean the end
Of your presence, though you might be left to fend
At least on the surface, people praised different gods
Sometimes, they seemingly worshipped none
What did this mean, when faith didn’t run deep
In tradition, but rather modern pleasantries?
Would I ever come back? That ship has sailed.
Things seem too different for me to go back there
But if my knowledge still paints some truth
Then…what she says isn’t fully a ruse
From what I’ve seen, unlike with me in another place:
They didn’t force followers to be raised
With karma blindly dictating every step of the way
It’s been so long, though, what can I say
When I could carve out my own path for today?
