Troubled Times in Tunnel Vision

By Brianna Galligan

By Brianna Lynn GalliganPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

Trouble times and tunnel vision

Echo in the great unknown.

Causing fear to stir derision

At each sweep of wind that's blown.

And yet are we so far gone

We cannot blink the tears away.

Have we seen this all along?

Predicted our own decay?

Dreams surround in agony

Too far away to dare.

We run and slip on uncertainty

With each and every scare.

Images blink. They cause dispute

Over what is right and wrong.

And all our lyrics can transmute

Is sorrow in our song.

For how can we stand tall and proud

While all around are screams.

The echoing is much too loud.

It drowns out our old dreams.

Yet standing tall we hold our hands

And pray this time will end.

The day will drift upon the lands

When words become but friend.

How still the silence of the mind

While yet the thoughts are reeling.

You stare distracted at the time

And hold on to your feeling.

Don't shed a tear or you might see

A glimmer of their malice.

They grip and tear. Cause misery.

As our blood drips from their chalice.

For can we not communicate.

Band together wholly.

Is this the end or just our fate

That brings us to the holy.

You laugh and sneer at words unsaid

We all know deeply well

And take us children from our bed

To bathe us in your hell.

So test the time, I say to you.

Go out and do your worst.

For balance will be taking stock

And from karma it will burst.

We are but children of the world.

The tree, the flower, the ocean.

When all is done we will remain

And trample your fool notion.

You cannot take away our faith

Or break our spirits within

In chains and shackles we shall wait

And know our songs begin.

For in the distance, rises the sun

That lights up our tomorrow

It brings us hope we'll see a day

Where, no more, is there sorrow.

We know the light will warm the earth

And washing away the pain.

We'll rise up living in rebirth

To start the world again.

So try you may and try you might

To bruise us, bend us, break us.

But we are children of the light

And from light you shall not take us.
