Triple Word.

For National Poetry Day 2025

By Cathy (Christine Acheini) Ben-Ameh.Published 3 months ago 1 min read

Letters scatter

Across the board of my mind;

Some cling to meaning

Others slip in silence

Hoping to form a word

That counts,

That earns a point

Against the clock of thoughts

And the quiet hum of longing.

I place vowels

Like soft steps

Across memory tiles,

Consonants grind

Against the edges of regret,

Hoping for a high score

In the game of living,

Where no one checks your rack

For letters left unused.

A word forms

From dust and shadow,

A promise or a prayer

That even in a jumble

Something can spell,

Joy.

I'm so glad I read this today. Your work always leaves me with just a bit more joy. I loved the word play and the references to Scrabble. My favorite line was "I place vowels Like soft steps Across memory tiles." Wonderful.

  • "That even in a jumble Something can spell," That felt so reassuring. Loved your poem!

The speech wasn't less in this one. But I am speechless because the vibe was right. The rhymes were giving and your words pulled me out of a slump. This was so good. It conjures inspiration. Every line was not left unloved because the one that followed. The one accompanying the one before, took a bow while the other rised above it. 'Others slip in silence' relatable. 'Memory tiles.' oh I love this to bits. Memory tiles is such a memorable play of words. A high score in the game of living. I'll give you one through this comment. This poem is 40/10. 'Even in a jungle something can spell joy' love your creativity here Cathy. Outstanding work 🤗❤️
